"How Fast Can You Add?"
Building Mathematical Fluency in Grades 1-8
Mathematical fluency is a point of focus in the Common Core
Standards for grades K-8. Not only is fluency specifically used as a
standard, it is a theme throughout the Common Core Standards
Document*. Topics presented in this session include:
* Why fluency is critical to student success
* How Computational and Procedural Fluency is created
* Problems with traditional methods of building fluency
* Strategies for creating effective fluency toolss
* Specific activities and games to help build fluency
* How Addition Blocks can meet the Common Core Standards
This talk specifically addresses the following Common Core
Standards:
1.0A.6; 2.0A.2; 2.NBT.5; 3.0A.7; 3.NBT.2; 4.NBT.4; 5.NBT.5;
6.NS.3
Please contact us about scheduling a professional development
session for your school or district.

Addition Blocks and Professional
Development
Why are my students still making silly mistakes!?! Why do
they struggle with simple math? Why are they completely
lost in more difficult problems?
The creators of Addition Blocks offer professional development
sessions on improving student fluency in their basic computational
skills and activities/games to implement in the classroom.
Many students who begin to have problems with math from 3rd to
8th grade (and beyond) simply are not fluent in basic
computation-- addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Improving basic computational fluency is critical to student
confidence, success, ability, and enjoyment for math!
This session has been presented as a webinar for BrainPOP, the
2013 ISTE Conference, and the 2013 Georgia Conference for
Teachers of Mathematics.
